I got started with running in 2010 after I graduated from college. Really, I started running because I wanted to lose the weight I had gained back then. I hated running. I did not like it at all.
But that same 2010, during my senior year, I ran a half marathon. It was how I wanted to start getting back in shape. I finished and I was sore for about 2 days. When I graduated and came back home, running was hard but I found it as an outlet to spend time with myself. I might have also had a crush on one of the trainers at the time, which meant that I could see him if I went to run on the tiny track at the gym.
Fast track to October of 2010 and I ran my 2nd half marathon. I had estimated an improvement of my time to end at 2:15, which is what I told my parents. I crossed that finish line at a 2:02. That following year I went on to run a 1:49 on the same course I had ran my first half marathon.
Since then, it’s been an on and off journey with running. I have done a few marathons and went on to complete an Ironman in 2018.
Currently, I may not be at my fastest but I am doing this because I enjoy it. I am running the Chicago Marathon again in 2020 and I’m so excited to do it.
